The Schleswig-Holstein Association League was held for the 56th time in the 2002/03 season and formed the substructure of the fourth-class Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga. The first-placed team rose directly, while the second-placed team had to play relegation games against the runner-up from the Association League Hamburg (depending on the relegated from the Regionalliga Nord). The teams in the last three places had to relegate to the district league.

Compared to the 2001/02 season , the composition of the league changed as follows: The second team from Holstein Kiel and TSB Flensburg were in the Oberliga Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein, while FC Kilia Kiel was back from the Oberliga Hamburg / Schleswig- Holstein was relegated to the Association League. The four relegated members had left the Association League and were replaced by the five promoted Rendsburger TSV (re- promotion after three seasons), BSC Brunsbüttel (re- promotion after six years), TSV Heiligenstedten (re- promotion after 32 years), TSV Pansdorf (re-promotion two years after the retreat the Oberliga) and VfR Schleswig (for the first time in the highest amateur league in Schleswig-Holstein).

Season course
FT Eider Büdelsdorf secured the championship and direct promotion to the Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga. The second-placed TSV Kropp initially played promotion games against the third of the Verbandsliga Hamburg and was defeated by TSV Sasel , but rose anyway. The third-placed VfB Lübeck Amateure finally had to play promotion games against the fourth of the Association League Hamburg, where he was subject to the Wedeler TSV . The last three teams had to be relegated from the association league: BSC Brunsbüttel and TSV Heiligenstedten after one season, FSV Borussia Lübeck after two seasons.
