The VfL Oldesloe is a German sports club based in the Schleswig-Holstein City Bad Oldesloe . The club has its origins in the men's gymnastics club Oldesloe (MTV from 1862). The name VfL Oldesloe, which is still valid today, can be traced back to the merger of Oldesloer SV (1902) with the men's gymnastics club Oldesloe (MTV from 1862) in 1938.

VfL Oldesloe is one of the oldest clubs in Stormarn.

VfL Oldesloe has departments for badminton , basketball , bowling , darts , football , GRG (health and rehabilitation sports community), handball , cardiac sports group , JIU-Jitsu / karate , judo , athletics , dancing , table tennis , triathlon , swimming , gymnastics , volleyball and winter sports . 50 different sports are offered in a total of 18 departments.

Surname

The official name of the association is "Verein für Leibesübungen Oldesloe von 1862 eV". Since this is not suitable for general usage, the name is limited to three letters. A capital "V", a small "f" and a capital "L", so you get the VfL Oldesloe.

In 1910, the city of Bad Oldesloe received the honorary title “Bad” for its spa and baths. The club name of VfL Oldesloe does not contain the “bath”, as it has existed for 48 years. Thus, this addition was never recorded in the club name.

Club history

VfL Oldesloe had its origins in the men's gymnastics club (MTV) Oldesloe.

MTV was founded on September 14, 1861 and received its flag foundation a year later. The founders were the folk poet Buchow, the goldsmith Noth, Louis Böthel and the innkeeper Maack.

The 25th anniversary of the association was celebrated in September 1886. A year later, the 25th anniversary of the MTV's founding club flag was celebrated, on which the founding year 1862 can be recognized. Therefore it was decided to recognize this year as the founding year. All other anniversaries related to this.

A special chapter in the club's history is the establishment of a “voluntary gymnastics fire brigade”, which was decided in 1872. In 1879, however, the fire fighters broke away from the association and became independent.

Ball sports also became popular in Oldesloe at the turn of the century, so a games department was set up in the club.

In 1914, with the outbreak of World War I, everyday sporting life was over for the time being. When the war was over, efforts were made to rebuild the club. This was supported by the merger with the Oldeslo ball game club. Then it came to a merger with FC Teutonia. The club name was changed to MTV from 1862. The club colors were set to the blue and white still used today.

The club now had five departments including gymnastics , football , tennis , youth and boys.

Due to tensions between the departments, it was decided in 1923 to split off the gymnastics department. The gymnastics department is now called MTV again, while the legal successor of MTV from 1962 was renamed Oldesloer Sportverein (OSV).

15 years later in 1938 the OSV and the MTV finally decided to make a common cause again. Now under the name still valid today “Association for physical exercises (VfL) Oldesloe.

With the outbreak of the Second World War, competition and sporting activities were discontinued. The athletes of military age were drafted into the Wehrmacht. Because of the heavy bombing raid on the Bad Oldesloe stand on April 24, 1945, large gaps were torn in the ranks of the Oldesloer athletes. After the war, the club began a painstaking and constant rebuilding of the club life in 1945. In the course of the next few decades the offer changed steadily.

This was also the case in the swimming department, which was first launched in 1955 but was disbanded six years later because there was no indoor pool on site. With the construction of the indoor swimming pool at Bürgerpark in the 1970s, the department was re-established.

In 1957 a winter sports department was established, even if Bad Oldesloe is not a constant winter area, this department has still existed to this day.

VfL Oldesloe now offers 50 different sports in a total of 18 departments.

The youngest department among them is the darts department, which was founded on April 13, 2018.

Social bond

The social solidarity is also lived through activities outside of sports. The city partnership with the Israeli city of Beer Yaacov is due to the initiatives of the gymnastics department.

The judokas have maintained an exchange with Ukraine since the 1990s .

Regular human help even developed from this. For example, medicines and other relief items were delivered to a hospital in Zhitomir, where children suffering from cancer are cared for as a result of the Chernobyl reactor fire.

social commitment

VfL Oldesloe has been involved in social projects such as sport against violence, sport and integration and sport in the city districts for years. The aim of these projects is to impart social skills through sporting activities.

Foundation, endowment

After three years of preparation, the VFL foundation fund was founded in 2011 under the umbrella of the Stormarn Community Foundation under the motto "Fit for the future". The aim of the foundation is to set up the association financially and to increase its attractiveness for current and future members.

Handball department

The first big success was the female youth A of VfL, which won the German championship in 1979. They won the two finals with 16:15 and 13: 9 against VfL Pfullingen . In the following year the Oldesloer women defended their title against the Reinickendorfer Füchse . After a first leg defeat of 8: 9, they won 11: 8 in the Stormarnhalle at home.

The women's team was promoted to the league in 1982. In 1985 VfL rose to the regional league for the first time . After the VfL surprisingly finished third in the table in the first season, they had to start the league a year later. In 1990 they returned to the Regionalliga and finally made it through to the 2nd Bundesliga .

VfL ended the first season in the 2nd Bundesliga (North) with 44: 0 points and 597: 358 goals as the sovereign champions, but the team failed in the promotion round to the 1st Bundesliga . After several successful seasons, VfL had to leave the 2nd division in 1999 for financial reasons. In the 2008/09 season, the women's team played in the district league (3rd place). Before the 2009/10 season, the team was withdrawn from the game, making them the first relegated. In the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons, no women's team took part in the game. From the 2012/13 season a team entered the district league. In the 2014/15 season, the team fell back to last place on the last match day and thus rose to the district class, the lowest division. From the 2016/17 season, the women's team returned to the district league, while the men's team played in the district league from the 2010/11 season. After disagreements between the handball division and the entire board of the club, the members of the handball division left the club after the 2018/19 season.
