The Tagetesähnliche cup Cup ( Steirodiscus tagetes ) is a plant of the genus Steirodiscus from the family of Compositae (Asteraceae).

description

The marigold-like cup basket is a bald, annual plant that reaches heights of 20 to 30 centimeters. The stem is heavily branched. Together with the upright, slender branches, it forms an umbrella- shaped inflorescence . The leaves are pinnate. On both sides there are 5 to 9 linear, whole or 1 to 2 lobed, blunt sections. The flower heads have a diameter of 2 centimeters. The inflorescence is urn-shaped. The bracts are fused to over the middle. The flowers are yellow-orange. The ray-florets are broad.

The flowering period extends from June to September.

Occurrence

The marigold-like cup basket occurs in South Africa on sandy plains and lower slopes.

use

The marigold-like cup basket is rarely used as an ornamental plant for summer flower beds and borders. It has been in culture since 1823 at the latest. The 'Gold Rush' variety has bright lemon yellow flowers.
