The Takaki Promontory is a peninsula on the Graham Coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located at the northwest end of the Barison Peninsula . The Nuñez Point at its seaward end marks the northeast boundary of the entrance from the Grandidier Canal to Leroux Bay .
It was discovered and roughly mapped during the Fourth French Antarctic Expedition (1903–1905) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them in 1959 after the Japanese marine doctor Takaki Kanehiro (1849-1920), who in 1882 was the first to prevent the development of the deficiency disease beriberi by adjusting the diet under empirical test conditions .
