action

The farmer's son John Middleton is sent off by his father to help his old friend Hank Mason, who writes in a letter that he is in trouble. On the way, John gets caught between the lines of a robbery. The marshal makes it appear that John is arrested and engages him as an undercover agent in the guise of an escaped prisoner in order to start a gang of robbers. Since Hank Mason has also disappeared in the city concerned, John accepts the assignment. Even before John has reached his goal, there is a confrontation with the bandits, which leads to a shootout. John helps a young woman escape who later turns out to be Hanks niece Ann.

The singing cowboy quickly wins the young lady's heart. Ann suspects the influential Frank Carter to be involved in the gang around Butch Martin and the disappearance of her uncle. The next day John learns that the bandits are apparently planning to starve the farmers and drive them out of the valley. John offers to run a wagon train with groceries. He ambushes the bandits and is ultimately successful. But then - as agreed - the Marshal's profile reaches the city in which John is depicted as a criminal. But the bandits also get a tip that John is actually working for the law. They lure him into their hiding place and lock him up. There John also finds Hank Mason, who is also trapped. Together they can break free.

John immediately sets out to inform the marshal that the gang is planning to raid the farmers' cattle drive - an opportunity to catch the entire gang at once. In fact, the bandits attack the farmers and engage them in a futile exchange of fire. The tide turns, however, when John rushes to aid the marshal and his men. In the end, Carter is exposed as the mastermind behind the violence, who wanted to drive the farmers out to be the sole owner of a gold mine that Hank Mason discovered on his land.
