The Frauenwald viaduct is a 704 m long railway bridge on the Mannheim – Stuttgart high-speed line southwest of the Oberacker district of the Baden-Württemberg city of Kraichtal .

course

The bridge, which lies between the route kilometers 52.170 and 52.872, crosses a forest depression in the Kraichgau hill country. The route runs straight on the structure, the gradient rises evenly towards Stuttgart at 6.0575 per thousand.

history

planning

Already after the planning status of the new line from 1973 a valley bridge was planned at Oberacker. It was planned with a length of around 600 m and a height of around 30 m.

The public hearing took place in Oberacker on June 22nd, 1978 .

construction

Construction work began with the excavation in February 1984. For the foundation, the poorly stable soil under almost all of the pillars had to be replaced. In the same year embankments were filled, soil was replaced and the first pillars were founded. The last superstructure was completed in December 1985. Two sections each were concreted and pushed forward every three weeks.

The structure was completed in 1986. The construction costs were around 21 million Deutschmarks (around 11 million euros ).

technology

The conception of the structure follows the framework planning of the Deutsche Bundesbahn for valley bridges, which was drawn up by the NBS project group of the Karlsruhe Federal Railway Directorate .

The side facing Oberacker was given a two meter high parapet as a noise protection measure.

Substructure

The 15 pillars of the bridge are spaced 44 m apart. The clear height above the valley floor is up to 31.0 m. The pillars were raised in shots of 4.0 m.

superstructure

The prestressed concrete superstructure is designed as a multi-part single-span girder system. The superstructure is 4.82 m high and 14.30 m wide.
