Charlotte Dorothea Sophie von Hessen-Homburg (born June 17, 1672 in Kassel , † August 29, 1738 in Weimar ) was a princess of Hessen-Homburg and by marriage Duchess of Saxe-Weimar .

Life

Charlotte was the eldest daughter of Landgrave Friedrich II of Hesse-Homburg (1633–1708), the famous Prince of Homburg , from his second marriage to Luise Elisabeth (1646–1690), daughter of Duke Jakob von Kurland .

On November 4, 1694, she married Duke Johann Ernst III in Kassel . von Sachsen-Weimar (1664–1707), who already had 5 children from his first marriage to Sophie Auguste von Anhalt-Zerbst and, as an alcoholic, was de facto excluded from the government by his brother Wilhelm Ernst von Sachsen-Weimar . Charlotte outlived her husband by 31 years. As Wittum she received the office of Hardisleben .

From 1702 to 1704, Charlotte had the so-called Yellow Palace built for herself in Weimar. The guardianship for their son Johann Ernst was his uncle, Duke Wilhelm Ernst. Charlotte kept caring for her son, who had a tumor and who only died of it at the age of 18.
