The Agua del Toro dam ( Spanish Represa Agua del Toro ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in the province of Mendoza , Argentina . It dams the Río Diamante to a reservoir. The dam and the associated hydropower plant are also known as the Agua del Toro hydropower plant complex (Spanish Complejo hidroeléctrico Agua del Toro ). The city of San Rafael is around 50 km east of the dam.
The dam is used for power generation and irrigation. Construction of the dam began in 1966. It was completed in February 1974. The dam is owned by Hidroeléctrica Diamante SA (HIDISA) and is also operated by HIDISA.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a double-curved concrete arch dam with a height of 98.5 m above the river bed (maximum height 118.5, 119 or 120 m). The top of the wall is at a height of 1343.5 m above sea level . The length of the wall crown is 325 m, its width at the base 22.7 m and at the crown 4.6 (or 7.7) m. The volume of the barrier structure is 450,000 m³.
The dam wall has both a flood relief and a bottom outlet . A maximum of 585 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood discharge, and a maximum of 85 m³ / s via the bottom outlet.
Reservoir
The normal destination is between 1308 and 1338.5 m. With a storage target of 1338.5 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 10.85 km² and holds 296.42 (or 432) million m³ of water. The maximum storage target is 1343 m, the minimum 1265 m.
power plant
The power plant's machine house is located about 4 km downstream of the dam on the left bank of the river. The installed capacity is 150 MW . The average annual generation is given as 252 (or 324, 350 or 400) million kWh . The power plant went into operation on November 26, 1982.
The two Francis turbines have a maximum output of 75 MW each. The nominal speed of the turbines is 250 min −1 . The drop height is between 83 and 132.5 m. The flow rate is 73.5 m³ / s (maximum 75, minimum 45 m³ / s).
Others
The operator Hidroeléctrica Diamante SA is 61% owned by Pampa Energía .
