The dam Los Reyunos ( Spanish Represa Los Reyunos or Dique Los Reyunos ) is a dam with pumped storage power plant in the province of Mendoza , Argentina . It dams the Río Diamante to a reservoir. The dam and the associated pumped storage power plant are also known as the Los Reyunos hydroelectric power plant complex (Spanish Complejo hidroeléctrico Los Reyunos ).
The dam is used for power generation and irrigation. Construction began in 1980. It was completed in November 1983. The dam and the hydroelectric power station are owned by the state ( Sec. E. de la Nación y Prov. Mendoza ). The concession for the operation was transferred to Hidroeléctrica Diamante SA on October 19, 1994.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a bulk dam with a height of 106 m above the river bed (maximum height 136 m). The top of the dam is at an altitude of 1000 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 295 m, its width at the crown 12 m. The volume of the barrier structure is 3.5 million m³.
The dam has a flood relief system that can discharge a maximum of 2063 (or 2300) m³ / s.
Reservoir
The normal destination is between 960 and 996 m. With a reservoir target of 996 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 7.34 (or 7.9) km² and holds 256.84 (or 260) million m³ of water. The maximum storage destination is 997.58 m, the minimum 960 m.
power plant
The machine house is at the foot of the dam. It is separated from the underwater by a double-curved concrete arch dam with a height of 26.4 m.
The installed capacity of the power plant is 224 (or 230) MW . The average annual generation is given as 220 (or 247 or 302) million kWh .
The two Francis turbines each have a maximum output of 112 (or 115) MW and the associated generators 115.2 MVA . The rated speed of the turbines is 166.7 min −1 . The fall height is between 77 and 98.7 m. The flow rate is 123 m³ / s (maximum 137, minimum 100 m³ / s).
Both turbines can be operated as pump turbines . In pumping mode, the power consumption is 103.75 MW each. The reservoir of the El Tigre reservoir about 2 km downstream serves as the lower basin of the Los Reyunos pumped storage power plant .
Others
The operator Hidroeléctrica Diamante SA is 61% owned by Pampa Energía .
