The Eichicht dam is the final structure of the Saale cascade in the Obere Saale dam system. It was completed in 1945 and put into operation on October 2, 1945. The Saale is dammed near Saalfeld .
The reservoir is at the same time the lower basin of the Hohenwarte I and II PSW , the outflow from the reservoir is via the Eichicht run-of-river power station with an output of 3.4 megawatts . The power plants belong to the Vattenfall Europe Generation .
The dam , a weight dam made of concrete , has a crown overflow in three fields with attached weir flaps , which serves as a flood relief . In 1962, a sealing curtain was subsequently put on from the inspection corridor to seal the subsurface. In addition, relief bores were also drilled from the inspection corridor as drainage .
The dam was planned and built by Philipp Holzmann AG ; the machines were supplied by MAN and Escher-Wyss .
