The Mohelno hydropower plant is a run-of-river power plant on the Jihlava River southeast of Třebíč . It was built together with the reservoir of the Dalešice power plant at a higher elevation between 1970 and 1977. The backwater of 7 km extends to the Dalešice power plant and results in a reservoir with a capacity of 17.1 million m³.
Dam wall
The dam is located on kilometer 58.94 of the Jihlava. At the crown it is 185 m long, 7.75 m wide and 38.65 m high. The gravity dam consists of 89,400 m³ of concrete .
meaning
The Mohelno hydropower plant was planned in combination with the Dukovany nuclear power plant , the reservoir provides the absolutely necessary process water and cools the warm wastewater through mixing to environmentally compatible values.
As a run-of-river power plant, it is of minor importance due to the small amount of water in the Jihlava River.
The reservoir fulfills an important function for the higher-lying Dalešice pumped storage power plant , as its lower storage basin. Downstream, the flow of water into the Jihlava River is kept relatively constant, when the peak load is required , the reservoir fills through the outflow from the Dalešice power plant, only to be partially emptied again when the energy requirement is low, when water with unneeded energy from the nearby Dukovany nuclear power plant goes to the higher-lying Dalešice reservoir is pumped back.
The Mohelno power plant is operated remotely from the control center of the Dalešice power plant.
The storage capacity also has an impact on the lower reaches of the Jihlava, seasonal fluctuations in the water flow are balanced out, flood peaks during heavy rainfall and sedimentation are reduced.
Below the dam there is a protection zone for crabs, there is a rich stock of trout (fishing ground Jihlava 6).
The Mohelenská hadcová step nature reserve , a serpentinite steppe, is located near the reservoir.
