The Stanovice Dam ( Vodní nádrž Stanovice in Czech ) is a drinking water dam in the Czech Republic . It is located six kilometers south of Karlsbad / Karlovy Vary in the Imperial Forest / Slavkovský les. The Lomnický potok and its tributary Dražovský potok are dammed. The reservoir is located in the first zone of the drinking water protection area and is not accessible.

geography

The dam is located a good kilometer north of the village of Stanovice ; The road connecting Stanovice and Háje leads over the top of the dam . Surrounding places are Háje and Kolová in the north, Pila in the northeast, Rybničná and Nové Kounice in the southeast, Dolní Dražov and Nové Stanovice in the south, Stanovice and U Tepelského Údolí in the west and Cihelny in the northwest.

history

After the flood of November 24, 1890 in Karlovy Vary, the city began planning flood protection measures. In 1907, a report by the State Hydrographic Agency in Prague deemed the construction of two dams on the Teplá and the Lamnitzbach ( Lomnický potok ) necessary. For the purpose of rapid flood protection, the decision was made to initially only build the dam on the Teplá; However, the Pirkenhammer dam was not realized until the 1930s.

Between 1972 and 1978, the Stanovice dam was built according to a project by Hydroprojekt Praha for the primary purpose of supplying the spa town of Karlovy Vary with drinking water at Lomnický potok. The construction companies were Vodní stavby Praha, Sigma Hranice, ČKD Blansko, EZ Praha, ZPA Praha and VEB Autobahnbaukombinat Weimar. With the construction of the dam, the one-layer Stanovický Mlýn ( Donawitz Mill ) located in the otherwise uninhabited Kerbtal of the Lomnický potok was flooded.

After its completion in 1978, the water quality became problematic. Analyzes showed an entry of iron, manganese and humic substances from the settled and agriculturally used catchment area of Lomnický potok. In the summer months, the reservoir must therefore be checked for the formation of blue-green algae. In the years 2012–2015, the Technological Agency of the Czech Republic carried out the project Methods for the optimal planning of measures in the catchment areas of drinking water reservoirs to effectively reduce their eutrophication .

description

The 57.5 m high embankment has an asphalt seal on the water side; it has a length of 258 m and is 8.25 m wide. There is a massive concrete discharge tower 150 m in front of the dam crest. A small power plant with two turbines of 37 and 46 kW was set up at the foot of the tower .

The Stanovice Dam is part of the Stanovice – Březová water management system, which also includes the Březová Dam and the Teplička pumping station and weir . From the pumping station at the Teplička weir, water from the Teplá is fed through a pressure pipe into the reservoir; a height difference of 139 m is overcome.

In addition to the drinking water supply, the generation of electricity and the guarantee of a minimum flow in the lower reaches of the Lomnický potok, the dam is also used for flood protection and fishing. The Stanovice dam can reduce the water runoff of the Lomnický potok to 13 m³ / s during a winter flood during the snowmelt. Together with the Březová dam, the Stanovice dam can reduce the amount of water flowing to Karlovy Vary to 13 m³ / s at a high water of 90 m³ / s.
