Tanja Machalet (born Tanja Breuer on May 1, 1974 in Dernbach (Westerwald) ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She has been a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament since 2011 .

Life

Machalet passed the Abitur at the Mons-Tabor-Gymnasium in Montabaur in 1993 , after which she completed an apprenticeship as a bank clerk at the Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen in Frankfurt am Main . From 1996 to 2002 Machalet studied economics in Frankfurt and Trier and received his doctorate in 2007 with a thesis on "Educational qualifications on the international job market". Machalet worked as a research assistant at the University of Trier from 2002 to 2006 . From March 2006 to May 2011 she worked as a consultant in the State Chancellery of Rhineland-Palatinate in Mainz . Machalet is married and has two children.

Political career

Machalet was deputy federal chairman of the Jusos from 1999 to 2003 , to which she had belonged since 1991. In 2009 she was the district administrator of the SPD in the Westerwald district , but lost to Achim Schwickert from the CDU . In 2011 and 2016 Machalet ran in the constituency of Montabaur for the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament and moved into the state parliament via the state list for the SPD . In the current legislative period, she is a member of the Budget and Finance Committee, the Committee on Social Affairs and Labor and the Committee on Health, Care and Demography. She is also budget spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group.

She is a member of the municipal council of the Wallmerod municipality and the district council of the Westerwaldkreis .

In March 2020 Machalet announced that she would no longer run in the election for the 18th state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate . The district executive of the SPD in the Westerwaldkreis has nominated Machalet as the successor of Gabi Weber in the federal constituency of Montabaur for the election to the 20th German Bundestag .

Other engagement

Tanja Machalet is the chairwoman of the local DRK association Meudt eV She is also the initiator of the initiative for single parents in the Westerwald.
