Tanja Wehsely (born May 7, 1972 in Vienna ) is an Austrian manager. From 2007 to the end of 2018 she was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council for the ( SPÖ ). Since January 1, 2019 she has been the managing director of Volkshilfe Wien.

education

Tanja Wehsely graduated from the Vienna Bundesrealgymnasium Vereinsgasse and completed a year abroad in Texas, USA, where she obtained an " American High School Diploma ". After successfully completing her studies at the Federal Academy for Social Work in Vienna, she began studying economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . At the same time, she attended the postgraduate university course in public relations at the University of Vienna , which she also successfully completed. At the University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten she finally obtained the title Magistra (FH) for social science professions.

Professional career

Professionally, Wehsely went through her career in youth work in Vienna, which she also actively helped to shape and develop since the early 1990s. Starting as a street worker in mobile youth work , she was ultimately responsible for project management and PR. She gained journalistic experience as the editor of the specialist journal “Sozialarbeit in Österreich”. Until 2007, Wehsely was the press office / public relations worker in the Association of Vienna Youth Centers , the largest provider of open youth work in Austria. She is still a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Vienna Campus , Social Work course.

Since January 1, 2019 she has been the managing director of Volkshilfe Wien.

Political career

Tanja Wehsely was the class representative and school representative at the Bundesrealgymnasium Vereinsgasse .

Wehsely has been a member of the board of the SPÖ Brigittenau (20th district) since 2001 , and has been deputy party chairman since 2009. She is chairwoman of the SPÖ Education Brigittenau and deputy chairwoman of the SPÖ Women 20. Between 2002 and 2006, she was district councilor and youth representative in Brigittenau.

Wehsely was sworn in on January 25, 2007 as a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the City Council of Vienna.

As the first woman in this position, she was chairwoman of the municipal council committee for finance, economy and international affairs, a full member of the municipal council committee for youth, education, integration and personnel, and a full member of the municipal council committee for social affairs, health and women.

From April 2009 Tanja Wehsely was deputy chairwoman of the SPÖ town hall club.

Her voluntary activities include youth work, the labor market and innovation. She is chairwoman of the Association of Vienna Youth Centers and is involved in other boards of Vienna youth work. As a representative of the City of Vienna, Wehsely is the deputy chairwoman of the board of waff (Vienna Employee Promotion Fund). She is (jointly) responsible for the Vienna Training Guarantee.

She is also the vice president of the umbrella organization for social institutions.

In 2014 she founded the social innovation hub “Social City Wien” as a platform for social innovation with projects such as imfino (impact finance organization), Stadtmenschen Wien (volunteer project) and the Youth Peace Prize.

For the social business Sindbad - mentoring for young people - Wehsely acts as one of several prominent patrons and women.

She resigned her mandate in the Vienna state parliament and municipal council at the end of 2018, and Yvonne Rychly took over for her.

Private

Tanja Wehsely is married to Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky and has one son. She is the daughter of Hans and Renate Wehsely, her sister is Sonja Wehsely , a former city councilor in Vienna.

Music is her passion and hobby. Wehsely has been a singer since her youth (and was also the lyricist of her own political rock band “Zille 24”). She currently performs with her husband Adam with the band "EXTRA: GONE" whenever the opportunity and time presents itself.
