The Tanečnice ( German dance plan ) is one of the highest mountains in the Bohemian Netherlands , not far from the Saxon town of Sebnitz . The state border between Germany and the Czech Republic runs over the shoulder of the mountain .

Location and surroundings

The Tanečnice is located east of the town of Sebnitz, which is located directly at the foot of the mountain on the German side. In the Czech Republic the municipalities Dolní Poustevna (Niedereinsiedel) , Vilémov (Wölmsdorf) and Mikulášovice (Nixdorf) are located at the foot of the mountain . In terms of landscape, the mountain can still be assigned to the Elbe Sandstone Mountains , but geologically it belongs to the Lusatian mountains .

history

The first wooden observation tower was built in 1885, but was destroyed by a storm after just one year. In 1886 a second wooden tower was erected as a replacement. In the vicinity of the tower there were two wooden huts that served as an inn and also made it possible to stay overnight.

In May 1903 a storm destroyed the observation tower (the same storm also destroyed the tower on the Rosenberg ). From 1904, today's stone tower was built and inaugurated on May 28, 1905 as the Bismarck tower . It is approx. 26 meters high and the lower third consists of natural stones on which a brick building is placed. The construction costs amounted to about 24,000 crowns . An annex was added to the huts. The mountain inn was also known as "Onkel Toms Hütte" after the hut owner at the time, Thomas Pilz.

In May 1946 a fire destroyed the mountain inn. The tower itself was in the restricted area of the German-Czech border between 1949 and 1959 and was not open to the public. The log cabin, which is still in operation today, was rebuilt at the end of the 1970s.

view

A very comprehensive panoramic view is possible from the tower. In the south, the view sweeps over the undulating forest and rocky landscape of Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland, in the east are the cone mountains of the Lusatian Mountains . In the north are the ridges of the Oberlausitzer Bergland, the Valtenberg massif is particularly striking . In the west the view sweeps over the large district town of Sebnitz with the Ungerberg .

Routes to the summit

  • The cheapest starting point is the town of Sebnitz, from there a marked hiking trail leads directly to the summit. Until the Czech Republic joined the Schengen Agreement , it had the status of a cross-border hiking trail .
  • A blue hiking route leads from Vilémov over the mountain to Mikulášovice.
