Medal of Bravery (Hungary)

The Medal of Honor ( Hungarian Magyar Vitézségi Erem ) was born on 14 April 1939 by the Hungarian regent and head of state Miklos Horthy following the former Medal of Honor of the imperial monarchy founded and was designed to award non-commissioned officers and crews provided for extraordinary bravery in the field. In exceptional cases it could also be awarded to civilians.

On September 12, 1942, the Golden Medal of Bravery was introduced for officers , which was awarded only eleven times during the course of the Second World War . Among those on loan are two Germans, Hans-Ulrich Rudel and Helmut Lipfert .

The medal of bravery could also be awarded repeatedly in all its levels. For this case, a 5 mm wide clasp was placed on the ribbon with the appropriate level.

Appearance

The front of the medal shows the raised embossed head relief of Horthys, which is seen from the viewer looking to the right. The knight's cross of the Military Maria Theresa Order can be seen on the buttonhole of the admiral 's uniform on his chest . The relief is from the legend VITÉZ. NAGYBÁNYAI. HORTHY. MIKLÓS. MAGYARORSZÁG. KORMÁNYZÓJA (Knight Nikolaus Horthy of Nagybanya Imperial Administrator of Hungary) framed. The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the coat of arms of Hungary with the holy crown on two laurel leaves and wrapped swords. The same symbol can be found on the gold medal for officers as a ribbon. The inscription VITÉZSÉGÉRT (for bravery) can be read under the coat of arms .

Carrying method

The bravery medal was worn on the left side of the chest on a 41 mm wide triangular ribbon , which was lined with red with a narrow white-green edge.
