Tara Erraught

Tara Erraught (* 1986 in Dundalk ) is an Irish opera, concert and lied singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

education

Tara Erraught started singing at the age of ten and set herself the goal of becoming an opera singer when she was thirteen. At the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin she studied singing with Veronica Dunne, with whom she continues to work.

As a soloist at the Bavarian State Opera

Since the 2008/2009 season, Tara Erraught has been a member of the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera. In 2010 she was accepted into the ensemble and initially played smaller roles, then also the Cherubino in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and the child in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges . With only five days of preparation time, she jumped in at very short notice for the sick Vesselina Kasarova as Romeo in Vincenzo Bellini's I Capuleti ei Montecchi in March 2011 she gained national attention and recommended herself for an international career. In the following years she performed other roles in the lyric mezzo-soprano, including: a. Dorabella in Così fan tutte (Nov. 2011), Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia (March 2012), Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus (Dec. 2012), Hansel in Hansel and Gretel (March 2013) and Angelina in La Cenerentola (March 2014). She took part in the premiere cast of the following operas: as Sesto in La clemenza di Tito (Feb. 2014), as Krista in The Makropulos Case (Oct. 2014) and as Kathleen Scott in the world premiere of Miroslav Srnkas South Pole (Jan. 2016) . She also made her debut at the Bavarian State Opera as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro (June 2016) and as a composer in Ariadne auf Naxos (March 2017).

Guest appearances at major festivals and in major opera houses

Above all as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia and as Angelina in La Cenerentola , Tara Erraught was soon signed to other opera houses, such as Washington and the State Operas of Hamburg, Vienna and Berlin. At the Glyndebourne Festival 2014 she played Octavian in Rosenkavalier for the first time and thus sparked a controversial discussion about the desired appearance as an actress of a young man, despite recognized singing and acting, which, however, won many additional sympathies. She made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in July 2016 as Siébel in Charles Gounod's Faust . At the Metropolitan Opera New York she appeared for the first time in September 2017 as Nicklausse in Offenbach's Les contes d'Hoffmann and then in December 2017 as Hansel in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel . At the Gran Teatro del Liceu Barcelona she made her house and role debut as Stéphano in Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette in February 2018 .

Work as a song singer

With regular support from Brigitte Fassbaender , Tara Erraught works on song programs. With that she entered 2017 a. a. at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg and in London's Wigmore Hall .
