Tarazed (also Tarazad, Tarazet, Reda ) is the name of the star Gamma Aquilae (γ Aquilae, γ Aql for short) in the constellation Eagle . The name is Persian and means "balance beam". Tarazed has an apparent magnitude of +2.72 mag and is about 400 light years away from the sun. It is a bright orange giant belonging to the spectral class K3 and is in the stage of stellar evolution in which it burns helium to carbon in its core . Its radius is calculated from its luminosity (again determined from apparent brightness and distance) of around 3000 solar luminosities to an enormous 110 solar radii or 0.5 AU . This means that it is large enough that its angular diameter can also be measured directly to 0.0075 arc seconds, from which, together with its distance, a similar value for its physical diameter as the one given above is calculated. Tarazed is also an X-ray source.
In the television series Andromeda , Tarazed is the fourth planet of a yellow dwarf in one of the three galaxies (Milky Way, Andromeda, and Triangulum) and is a remote and difficult-to-reach place.
