He was probably trained as a stonemason in Cologne, where he made cracks in the cathedral that are now in the Academy in Vienna. He was employed as his father's journeyman until 1472. He is mentioned as a participating journeyman on the stonemason day of 1472 in Strasbourg. He worked at the Esslinger Frauenkirche until 1474, where he made the crack of a mountain group of the Ulm Minster . In 1477 he moved to Ulm, his stonemason mark and the year 1478 are on the southwest corner pillar of the Ulm Minster. From around 1480 he was master builder in Ulm for life. He was also the construction manager of the church in Radolfzell . From 1480 to 1494 he continued the tower work that Ensinger had started on the Ulm Minster, the upper quadrangular floor. A 3.10 meter high draft drawing of this tower has been preserved. During his creative time in Ulm, Böblinger raised the main tower by 100 feet. On the tower is his stonemason's mark with the year 1494. After that, there were disputes with the city council of Ulm because the minster almost collapsed. The danger from cracks in the tower was due to his predecessors due to the lack of foundations and he is said to have fled Ulm at the time. In 1485 he became the construction manager of the Katharinenkirche in Esslingen and supervised the work of his brother Lux Böblinger and Stefan Waid .
He was also busy building the Better Chapel . However, Ulrich von Ensingen's modified plans were largely retained and he was again appointed cathedral master builder in Ulm in 1495. The plans served from 1885 to 1890 as a template for the completion of the 161 m high tower.
In 1495 he took over the expansion of the choir of the Frauenkirche Esslingen. At the request of the city council of Memmingen to the council of Ulm he was able to lead the construction of the choir of the Martinskirche from 1496 to 1499 as a builder. He was a consultant and appraiser for church buildings in Frankfurt am Main , Reutlingen , Memmingen, Schwäbisch Gmünd and Bad Urach . In 1503 he entered the service of the Margrave of Baden.

He had a son Hans Böblinger the Elder. J. , who was also a builder and stonemason.

The tombstones of the Böblinger family can still be seen in the Esslinger Frauenkirche today.
