Tarentola ephippiata is a species of African gecko.

description

Tarentola ephippiata has a light basic color with saddle-like, brown cross bars. A typical feature of the head shape for this species is the cheek region that appears distended. Usually there are 16 longitudinal rows of tubercles , but sometimes there can be one or two more or less. The scales are round, large to very large and smooth or have a simple keel. The ventral scales are only slightly smaller than the back scales. The line between the two is blurred. From the mental to the area of ​​the ear openings there are 28 to 37 gular scales . Between the gular scales and the mind there are always one to three enlarged intermediate scales. On the underside of the first toe there are a total of 13-18 widened scales and lamellae, on the underside of the fifth toe to the base of the toe 16 to 25 scales. The openings of the ears are highly oval and without denticles .

Occurrence

The species occurs in the Sahara , the Sahel , in Senegal and Guinea-Bissau , in the Ivory Coast , in the north of Nigeria and Cameroon and in the Sudanese province of al-Bahr al-ahmar on the Red Sea .
