Camouflage mark

A camouflage license plate is a vehicle license plate that is displayed on a vehicle subject to approval , although it does not correspond to the vehicle license plate actually assigned. Disguises are used to disguise the actual owner of the vehicle. The use of camouflage signs must be logged by the vehicle driver in order to be able to answer any queries, for example in the event of traffic violations . The owner of vehicles with camouflage license plates can only be queried by the police and other authorities by written request to the Federal Motor Transport Authority in justified cases. The use of camouflage signs does not automatically lead to the assertion of special rights .

For tactical reasons, camouflaged labels can be used in law enforcement or crime prevention so that no conclusions can be drawn about the relevant authorities. A civil code (registration district - letters - numbers) is then mostly used.

If a citizen can prove a significant risk that would arise from querying his license plate number, in this exceptional case a registration office can apply a blocking note to the license plate number. When inquiring about the license plate at the Federal Motor Transport Authority , the holder will only be notified in the same way as a camouflage license plate upon written request. However, this is not a camouflage number, but a number with a blocking notice.

Alternatively, in the special exceptional cases described above, camouflaged license plates can also be attached to private vehicles at short notice and with official approval.

Situation in the USA

In the United States of America , license plates are generally regulated by the states . But there are also regulations for camouflage signs in the various states. In Iowa, for example, the issuing of camouflages is regulated in Iowa Code Section 321.19 Paragraph 1.c. Alabama also has a similar regulation in the Alabama Department of Revenue Administrative Code Chapter 810-5-1-.212.
