Tassilo Festetics

Tassilo Graf Festetics de Tolna (born June 2, 1813 in Vienna , † February 7, 1883 in Petrovaradin ) was an Austrian officer from the Festetics de Tolna family , most recently general of the cavalry and royal Hungarian chief steward .

Life

Tassilo Festetics was the grandson of the agricultural pioneer György Festetics and entered on January 27, 1834 as a second lieutenant in the Chevauxlegersregiment No. 2. On June 3, 1838, he received the degree of chamberlain . On February 15, 1846, he resigned from active service, but still took part in the crushing of the Cracow uprising in the same year and in the campaign in Italy in 1849 . On July 31, 1849, he returned to active service as a lieutenant colonel and, from September 30, 1849, until his appointment as major general on July 25, 1857, led the 7th Hussar Regiment .

On April 3, 1858 he received command of a brigade of the 5th Army Corps and led it in the Battle of Solferino . For his achievement he was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown, 2nd class. On January 21, 1864 he was promoted to Lieutenant Field Marshal .

When the German War broke out in 1866, he was given command of the 4th Army Corps and led it in the battle of Königgrätz , where a shrapnel tore off his foot.

On October 3, 1866 he received the Grand Cross of the Leopold Order , on August 15, 1869 the Order of the Golden Fleece and on April 20, 1879 the title of General of the Cavalry.
