Tatiana Mikhailovna Rjabuschinskaja ( Russian Татьяна Михайловна Рябушинская / Tatjana Mikhailovna Rjabuschinskaja , mostly written as Tatiana Riabouchinska ; born May 23, 1917 in Moscow ; † August 24, 2000 in Los Angeles ) was a Russian ballet dancer .

life and career

Rjabuschinskaja was the daughter of the Russian entrepreneur and patron Mikhail Pavlovich Rjabuschinski . She was discovered by George Balanchine in a Paris dance studio in 1931 and engaged with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo in 1932 at the age of 15 . Ryabushinskaya was one of the three famous "baby ballerinas" (together with Irina Baronova and Tamara Toumanova ). Rjabuschinskaja remained loyal to ballet until 1942 and danced as a guest ballerina in large ensembles around the world. B. the Ballet Theater , the London Festival Ballet , the Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

In 1943 she married the dancer and choreographer Davide Lichine . Ryabushinskaya and Lichine worked on two major Hollywood productions: They were the models for Hyacinth Hippo and Ben Ali Gator in Fantasia (1940) and the dancing silhouettes in Make Mine Music (1946). In the 1950s, Ryabushinskaya and Lichine founded a dance school in Beverly Hills , where they trained actors and dancers. Ryabushinskaya trained Anne Bancroft for her role as prima ballerina in The Turning Point .

Ryabushinskaya taught at her studio in West Hollywood until the day of her death .
