Password Ferry is the 17th episode of the Tatort television series . The premiere of the South German Radio result produced took place on April 3, 1972 at the First of ARD . For Chief Detective Eugen Lutz ( Werner Schumacher ) it is his second case. A woman falls from the railing of a ferry into Lake Constance, her body is not found.

action

Edith Reiser crashes into Lake Constance on a night ferry trip from Switzerland back to Germany. An immediately initiated search operation remains unsuccessful. Due to the low water temperatures, it is unlikely that she survived the accident.

Although it is obviously an accident, Commissioner Lutz starts the investigation to rule out a crime. The husband cannot have anything to do with a possible crime because he has an alibi. At the time of the accident, he was at a boat show in Friedrichshafen.

Lutz learns from the missing person's husband, Robert Reiser, that she had life insurance, and Lutz then began to have doubts about the death of Mrs. Reiser. He also learns from Reiser that he likes to play in the casino.

It also becomes clear that Robert Reiser has a lover, Vera, who also believes that Mrs. Reiser had a fatal accident.

Lutz also determines that there is a clause in the insurance company, according to which the sum will not be paid in the case of suicide in the first three years after signing the contract, but that the contract is three years and two months old. It also seems strange to him that Mr. Reiser is only insured for DM 200,000, but his wife is insured for DM 500,000.

Lutz learns that Reiser went to the casino as a habitual gambler without a tie on the evening of the incident and was sent away again; he came back later with a tie. The time in between would have been enough for him to cross over to the other bank of Lake Constance and drive back. Lutz can also find out that Reiser recently bought a neoprene suit with which one can survive in cold water for a long time.

In the meantime, Lutz is called to Vera Beermann's apartment, where she lies dead in her bathtub. A hair dryer that fell or was thrown into the tub will be found.

Lutz follows Reiser to Zurich, where this money can be paid out from life insurance. Reiser manages to escape Lutz and a chase through Zurich ensues. Lutz and his Swiss colleagues can provide Reiser, to the surprise of the officials, Edith Reiser gets out of the car. The two had started the insurance fraud because Reiser had gambled away large amounts in the casino. His girlfriend killed Reiser because she suspected him of killing his wife.
