Niederzissen baptismal font
The font in the parish church of St. Germanus in Niederzissen , a local parish in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate , is a font from the 13th century. It is a protected cultural monument .
The Romanesque font made of basalt lava was made around 1230. It is one meter high and 87 cm in diameter. The baptismal font, created in the form of a cup , has six sides on the upper edge and below it a surrounding frieze in acanthus shape , which is cranked around the capitals of the six columns .
The columns, the base and the cover of the baptismal font are from more recent times.
