Tautoro is a small settlement in the Far North District of Northland on the North Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
In the Māori language , the name of the settlement means “to stretch forward”.
geography
The settlement is located around 8.5 km south-southeast of Kaikohe and around 51 km northwest of Whangarei in the plain of the Punakitere River . The settlement is connected to the New Zealand State Highway 12 , which runs north, via Kaikohe . The closest settlements are Punakitiere Valley around 2.5 km to the east and Awarua around 11 km south. Kirikoe is about 6 km to the west and Ngapuhi about 4 km to the northwest.

Education
With the Tautoro School, the settlement has a primary school with grades 1 to 8. In 2016, 85 students attended the school.
