Tea Gaiosovna Dongusashvili ( Russian Теа Гайозовна Донгузашвили ; born January 4, 1976 in Tbilisi ) is a Russian judoka . In 2004 she won an Olympic bronze medal in the heavyweight division, the weight category over 78 kg.

Career

Tea Dongusashvili took third place at the Russian Open Class Championships in 1994, and in the next few years she regularly won medals at the Russian Championships, in 1999 she was the first Russian champion in the Open Class. In the same year she won the silver medal at the Universiade in Palma de Mallorca. In 2000, Dongusashvili won her first World Cup tournament in Budapest, and at the European Championships in 2000 she won the bronze medal in the open class. In 2001 she won the silver medal in the heavyweight division behind the German Katja Gerber at the European Championships in Paris . In the same year she received the bronze medal at the Universiade in Beijing and won the military world championships. In 2002 she won silver behind Katja Gerber in the open class of the European Championships. In 2003 she reached the European championship finals in the heavyweight division and was defeated by the British Karina Bryant . At the Judo World Championships in 2003, Dongusashvili was defeated early against the Cuban Daima Beltrán , but fought her way through to the bronze medal via the second chance. The highlight of the 2004 season was the Olympic Games in Athens . Dongusashvili reached the semifinals with three Ippon victories , but was defeated there against the Japanese Maki Tsukada , in the battle for bronze she defeated the Tunisian Insaf Yahyaoui .

2005 reached Dongusashvili again in the heavyweight division at the European Championship finals and was subject to Karina Bryant there. The European championships in the open class were held in December 2005 in a separate tournament in Moscow, Dongusashvili won her fifth silver medal after losing to French Anne-Sophie Mondière in the final . In March and April, Dongusashvili won three World Cup tournaments, but only finished fifth at the European Heavyweight Championships. At the end of 2006 she won the European title in the open class. At the European Championships in April 2007, she won the bronze medal in the heavyweight division. A year later she reached the final again at the European Championships in Lisbon , where she lost to Anne-Sophie Mondière. At the 2008 Olympic Games she won only one fight and lost twice, ultimately finishing ninth. After winning the team title at the European Championships with the Russian team in 2009, she reached her eighth European Championship final at the 2010 European Heavyweight Championships, and after losing to the Slovenian Lucija Polavder , she received her seventh silver medal. At the 2010 World Championships she won the bronze medal in the open class. She also won bronze at the European Championships in 2011 , here again in the heavyweight division. At the end of 2011 she won the silver medal at the World Championships in the open class after a loss to the Chinese Tong Wen . In 2012 she won the team title at the European Championships again , but the individual European champion Jelena Iwaschtschenko started at the Olympic Games .
