Ted V. Mikels ; actually Theodore Mikacevich (born April 29, 1929 in Saint Paul , Minnesota , † October 16, 2016 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) was an American filmmaker, screenwriter and producer . He became known for his trash films , including Astro-Zombies - Robots of Horror ( The Astro-Zombies , 1968).

Life

Even as a schoolboy, Mikels worked as an amateur photographer who developed his own film recordings in the bathtub. As an eighth grader, he was to get his first role as an actor in a film in which William Powell was to play the lead role. The beginning of the Second World War prevented this production. At fifteen he was a regular stage actor and developed an interest in film production. At first he tried to film his own performances.

In 1952 Mikel moved with his wife and daughter from Portland to Bend ( Oregon ), there occurred in 1954 a small theater group to Bend Community Players in 1955 and founded his own film production company. In 1957 he opened a housewares store in Bend called Mikels Home Furnishings .

He first started producing educational documentaries and short dramatic films. He also made several Hollywood film productions in Central Oregon. Before leaving Bend in the early 1960s, Mikels wrote and produced his first feature film there, Strike Me Deadly .

Since 1993 Mikels has been running TVM Studios, a film and video production studio in Las Vegas ( Nevada ). On August 28, 2005, he was awarded a certificate for his services to the film industry. In 2009, McFarland & Company published the book Film Alchemy: The Independent Cinema of Ted V. Mikels by Christopher Wayne Curry. Mikels also became known for his way of life. He lived temporarily in a harem in a castle in Glendale (California) .

2010 saw the release of the documentary The Wild World of Ted V. Mikels by Kevin Sean Michaels, narrated by director John Waters .
