Tea uncle , also Kühner with the cardboard box , real name Alfred Kühner (born March 30, 1872 in Braunschweig ; †  June 10, 1945 in Neuerkerode ), was a street vendor in Braunschweig in the early 20th century and is considered one of several city originals in Braunschweig.

Life

Kühner was the son of a cigar manufacturer. He became the owner of a drugstore , but it failed. He became known as a tea uncle when he began selling shoe polish and soap, and now and then dried herbs , as a peddler and street vendor with a box in hand.

For a small fee, he is also said to have gladly given his customers one or two health tips, in keeping with his former role as a druggist .

In 1943 he came to the Neuerkeröder Anstalten retirement home , where he died in 1945.
