Teenagers out of control - last resort Wilder Westen is an entertainment program on RTL with the character of Reality TV . The original format was broadcast on the English channel Channel 4 under the title Brat Camp .
The program is about subjecting several adolescents with behavioral problems to therapy with the aim of rehabilitating them . These participants a camp visit to the United States under the leadership of the family therapist Annegret Fischer Noble.
First season
At the request of their parents, six adolescents with behavioral problems and difficult to raise were subjected to unusual therapy in the great outdoors. It took place at the Turn-About Ranch in a desert in the US state of Utah - far from civilization .
The six young people were accompanied during their stay at the camp by the team of therapists Annegret Fischer Noble, Rosa Hoban, Bettina Koerner, Katie Austin and Kris Schock.
The program was first broadcast on February 21, 2007 at 8:15 pm.
The first episode was a great success for RTL. Overall, the show was seen by 4.20 (12.6% MA) million viewers. In the important target group there were 2.81 (21.6% MA) million viewers. The entire season was seen by an average of 4.09 (12.5% MA) million viewers. Among the 14 to 49 year olds, the program saw an average of 20.9 percent of all viewers.
Therapy concept
The young people should first internalize themselves during a week of "outdoor therapy", an experiential behavioral therapy in the great outdoors. In doing so, they should shed old behavior patterns , gain a new sense of self-worth and a positive perspective on life.
This program usually has an open ending and goes through four phases (e.g. the stone circle in the desert). The youngsters have to work towards given goals and achieve them before moving up to the next level. For example, teenagers earn better food and more comfort as they advance to higher levels. Conversely, every time they behave badly or fail to comply with the rules, they have to go back one level.

Second season
In the second season, eight young people took part in the therapy. It took place in the US state of Oregon and was called " Catherine Freer Wilderness Therapy Expeditions". As in the first season, Annegret Fischer Noble was the chief therapist. The team of therapists also consisted of Kris Schock, Marlies Luepges and Kami Schott.
The second season aired since February 27, 2008 and consisted of nine parts.
The first episode of the second season was seen by a total of 3.91 (12.3% MA) million viewers. Among the 14 to 49 year olds there were 2.50 (18.5% MA) million viewers. The entire season was seen by an average of 3.44 million viewers; the market share in the target group was 19.2 percent.
Therapy concept
The focus of the therapy program was nature. It was divided into two phases:
- In the first phase, the young people wandered through the desert and were not allowed to talk to each other. They should deal with themselves in this way, think about their previous life and the advice of the therapists.
- The second phase (adventure phase) consisted of several tasks that were given to the participants. To cope with this, the young people worked in groups to strengthen cohesion in the community. Once a task was solved, the participants were given more rights and responsibilities.

Third season
In the third season, six teenagers took part in the therapy. It took place in the US state of Colorado in the "Monarch Center for Family Aid" in Georgetown (Colorado) and partly in South Dakota . As in the previous seasons, Annegret Fischer Noble was the chief therapist. Another therapist was the institute director Dave Ventimiglia.
The third season began on February 25, 2009 and consisted of seven episodes.
The first episode of the third season was more successful than any episode of the second season. It was seen by a total of 4.37 (13.4% MA) million viewers. The target group had 2.91 (21.3% MA) million viewers.
Therapy concept
The therapy took place in nature. According to the organizers, this should be gestalt therapy .
The teenagers should do various exercises that should get them thinking about themselves. By giving free rein to their feelings in so-called “experiments”, the teenagers' behavior was prevented from being determined by anger, violence and aggressiveness. In addition, regular meetings were held with the families of the teenagers to enable them to find new solutions for their behavior and in dealing with other people.

Fourth season
In the fourth season, six young people again took part in the therapy. It took place in Arizona , Utah , Colorado, and South Dakota , especially Monument Valley , with the help of the Monarch Center for Family Aid , based in Georgetown, Colorado . As in the previous seasons, Annegret Fischer Noble was the chief therapist. In addition, the supervisor Marlies Luepges, who was already involved in the second season, the supervisors Wolfgang Schuessler, Willi Zeidler, and the parent coach Axel Doderer worked on the program.
The fourth season ran since February 17, 2010, comprised eight episodes and thus ended on April 7, 2010.
The first episode of the fourth season was seen by a total of 3.76 million viewers, which corresponded to a market share of 11.1 percent; in the target group there were 2.33 million (MA 16.8%). The penultimate episode had the lowest rates ever. These only saw 2.13 million viewers (MA 6.7%), of which 1.24 million (MA 10.1%) were in the target group. The entire season had a market share of 13.1 percent.
Therapy concept
As in the third season, the therapy concept was gestalt therapy . In doing so, young people should think about themselves in activities; Successful experiences should induce them to change their behavior (experience therapy).
