Valerie Teicher (born October 4, 1990 in Buenos Aires ; known by her stage name Tei Shi ) is an Argentine singer living in the United States with Colombian roots in the fields of indie pop , alternative R&B and synth pop, as well as a songwriter and music producer.

Life

Valerie Teicher was born in a suburb of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her parents are from Colombia, but Teicher is a native of Argentina. She spent the first years of her life a. a. also in Bogotá . After graduating from school, she and her parents moved to Vancouver , later moved to Boston in the United States , where she attended Berklee College of Music for about three years . After graduating from college, she moved to New York City and lived in the Brooklyn neighborhood for about two years . She has lived in Chinatown in Manhattan since 2014 .

Musical career

Her musical career began in 2013 with the release of her first promo single M & Ms , which later appeared on the first EP Saudade . On November 1, 2013, the second promo single Nevermind the End followed after M & Ms , which was released by the music label self-released . On November 12th, Teicher released her first EP Saudade . Gianluca Buccellati, one of her friends who she met during her studies in Boston, was also involved in the production, and who helped her write the lyrics, compose and record the songs. The tracks M & Ms , Nevermind the End and Nature vs. Nuture appeared before as demo singles.

At the beginning of January 2014, the single Adder (f) all Teichers was released, the first single from Saudade . In February, Nevermind the End, the second single followed. She released the accompanying music video in March. In the same month Teicher recorded the song Holiest with the American band Glass Animals . This was followed by other collaborations with other artists, including Arrest Me with Shy Girls , Best On with Luca and No Angel with Buccellati, a cover by the singer Beyoncé. This cover version did not appear on any EP, but was released as a solo single by Teicher himself.

Her second EP Verde was due to be released on April 14, 2015 , but this date was postponed to May 5, 2015 due to shortcomings and subsequent improvements. Verde was not released by Teicher himself, but by the labels Double Denim Records and Caroline Australia. The EP contains three new songs, including Bassically , which recorded high click rates on the Internet platforms YouTube and Spotify and helped the singer to become more widely known. Teicher released the music video for Bassically on February 11, 2015; the shooting was carried out under the direction of Nicolas Pesce. The second single entitled See Me and the music video shot in Bogotá hit the music market on August 20, 2015. The third and final single Get It was released on December 8, 2015; the accompanying video was released on the same date. In June 2015 she performed at the annual Electric Forest Festival . In April 2016, Teicher was seen at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and sang in the opening act for Years & Years , Jungle and Grimes .

Teicher released her first studio album Crawl Space on March 31, 2017 on the Downtown Records label . With Keep Running , the first single taken from published Crawlspace from which two different remixes were released later. The second and third single, How Far and Justify, were released .

The single Red Light was released on July 18, 2019 .
