The Teide broom ( Cytisus supranubius , Syn. : Spartocytisus supranubius ) is a plant from the genus Cytisus and belongs to the family of the Leguminosae (Fabaceae).
description
The strongly branched shrub of gray-green or green color usually grows in the shape of a spherical bush and reaches heights of up to 4 meters. There are almost sedentary, short-lived leaves on the upwardly growing branches, which consist of three linear partial leaves. These are less than 5 mm long and densely hairy, making them appear pale gray.
The white or pink flowers form a dense, terminal cluster and have a strong scent. The shuttle is pointed. The flower stalks are the same length or shorter than the calyx . The calyx is weakly two-lipped with short teeth and has a pressed hair. The fruits are black, hairy pods that contain four to six seeds.
The flowering period lasts from May to June.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48 + 0-4B.
Occurrence
The Teide gorse grows only on Tenerife and La Palma as part of the high mountain bush vegetation between 1700 and 2400 meters. In Tenerife, it is in the area of the Cañadas del Teide . It is rarer on La Palma.
