Telesforo Bonadonna

Telesforo Bonadonna (born August 30, 1901 in Novara , Piedmont, † March 5, 1987 in Milan , Lombardy) was an Italian agricultural scientist, veterinarian and reproductive biologist.

Live and act

He studied agricultural science and veterinary medicine and received his doctorate in Milan in 1926. From 1928 to 1934 he was director of the Institute of Animal Sciences at the University of Pavia , then at the University of Camerino . Most recently he was professor at the University of Milan and headed the Spallanzani Institute for Artificial Insemination and Reproduction of Farm Animals.

Bonadonna studied the basics of instrumental insemination in farm animals in the Soviet Union in 1935 and introduced this new method in Italy. After that, the areas of pathophysiology , reproductive biology and artificial insemination were the main subjects of his scientific work. He founded an Italian trade journal and led 54 courses in which over 3000 veterinarians were trained in the field of artificial insemination. He also wrote a very large number of scientific publications and 50 books. From 1948 he organized the International Congress on Animal Reproduction (ICAR) every four years and was elected Secretary General.

He was a member of more than 30 scientific societies and academies.
