The Television Cultural Center (TVCC) is a multifunctional building in Beijing's central business district ( CBD - CBD ) with 159 meters and 31 floors. It is opposite the China Central Television Headquarters (CCTV). The building complex houses a 1500-seat theater, cinemas, exhibition rooms, a five-star hotel with a conference center and ballroom, television studios and a computer center . The hotel is located in the central tower. Since the rooms are only on the window fronts, there is a huge atrium in the middle of the building .

Building history

The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) won the construction contract on 20 December 2002 by the Beijing International Tendering Co. , the TVCC and the CCTV Headquarters to build. Construction began in 2004 and the opening was planned for mid-May 2009. During the 2008 Summer Olympics , the TVCC served as the broadcasting center for foreign television journalists.

In a major fire on February 9, 2009, the TVCC burned out completely. The fire was triggered by illegally ignited fireworks at the end of the New Year celebrations . The damage was estimated at $ 588 million, sixteen suspects and the chief of construction were arrested. The renovation work on the badly damaged building was completed in 2012.
