Temtem is an MMORPG from 2020, which is being developed by the Spanish development studio CremaGames and marketed by Humble Bundle . It is currently still in Early Access on Steam for Microsoft Windows . A version for the PlayStation 4 , PlayStation 5 , Xbox One and Nintendo Switch is to follow in 2021.

action

In the game, players take on the role of a Temtem novice who begins his journey around the six islands of the Flying Archipelago while facing the threat from the Belsoto clan, who intend to rule the islands by force. Temtems are creatures that the player can train and can be assigned to the 12 element types.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Temtem is largely on the Pokémon inspired series. The players explore the area of the six islands of the Flying Archipelago , conquer the Temtem creatures of the same name and fight with them against other Temtems. Temtems can learn skills and have combat and special skills. They belong to one of 12 element types, each with different properties.

In the fight, the players can play alone or as a team against non-player characters ( player versus environment ) or against other players ( player versus player ). To advance in the game, the player must also complete quests and dialogues with the residents. Furthermore, the player can design and adapt his own character and his house. There are currently over 80 Temtems and by the time it is released there should be over 161.

Development and publication

The game was released on January 21, 2020 as an Early Access title on Steam . Further versions of Temtem are planned for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The game was created with the Unity engine. Between May and June 2018, the necessary money for the development was collected with the help of the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter . A total of $ 573,939 was raised, with the original target being $ 70,000. The game is regularly expanded and new Temtems are added. The finished version should appear in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2021.

reception

The game is inspired by Game Freaks Pokémon series, whose games have only appeared on Nintendo consoles with the exception of Pokémon Go . Temtem closes this gap by increasingly relying on PC players and later also trying to attract players from other consoles. Furthermore, some players were disappointed by the previously published games Pokémon Sword and Shield , which is why they see an alternative in Temtem. At the same time, it is also criticized how much the game copies from the series.

In contrast to Pokémon , the battles are purely online and combine the concept with MMO elements. There is also more emphasis on tactics and skill learning than random , which makes the gameplay more challenging. The game also praised the dialogues, the humor and the constant expansion and improvement by the developers. The graphic style of the game is modeled on anime games and held in cel shading .

Since the game is still under development, there are still some game bugs. Also, the high number of unexpected and sudden rushes of players after the release caused server problems. On Reddit , some players reacted humorously to the game errors with memes .

The game received mostly positive ratings on Steam and quickly reached a high number of players on the platform.
