reception

criticism

The Filmbewertungsstelle praised Anna Hepp's film and wrote, “The filmmaker, a granddaughter of Dorothea, has made an intimate film about love and saying goodbye, which is convincing in terms of both content and form. In its deliberate reduction, with black and white photography and calm, relatively rigid camera positions that alternate with sound sequences on the black screen, the film is consistently composed and corresponds to its subject. From the first take on, the arduous everyday life in old age becomes noticeable to the viewer. When Dorothea speaks, no image distracts from her thoughts, which represent the quintessence of a long life and make it clear that death loses its horror when one is at peace with oneself and with life. The filmmaker accompanies her protagonist with a lot of love and respect. But the film does not paint a portrait of Dorothea: We neither learn details from her life, nor do we know whether she receives support in everyday life (with housework or shopping). He concentrates entirely on his core: saying goodbye and sliding over to death with dignity and love. At the same time, it is a homage to a remarkable personality. "

Vera Kämper from the WAZ stated; “A day and an eternity” is a quiet work of art - and yet profound, impressive. Although the short film only lasts 25 minutes, every single shot has time. As much time as Dorothea Hepp needs. A shot of the house: The 94-year-old walks very slowly through the picture, the mailbox rattles, and she goes back. The way it is. "
