The sports teams of the University of Tennessee call themselves Tennessee Volunteers . It is only in the extremely successful women's basketball that one speaks of the Lady Volunteers, or Lady Vols for short . The colors of the athletics department are orange and white. Orange is associated with college and goes back to the American Daisy .
Derivation of the name
