Tenochtitlan is a Death Doom project from Russia that was founded in 2004. Along with metal bands like Arkona , Nomans Land and Butterfly Temple, it is one of the better-known from Eastern Europe . The name of the band is derived from the Central American city of Tenochtitlán , which was built by the Aztecs . The participants in the project come from the Russian metropolises of Moscow and Saint Petersburg and the provincial cities of Novovoronesch and Belaya Kalitwa .

Subject

The group is an exception in its country because of its subject matter. The above-mentioned bands mostly go back to their own culture in their lyrics, for example the Slavs at Arkona or the Vikings at Nomans Land . Tenochtitlan, however, deals with the culture of the Central and South American peoples, for example the Maya , Inca and Aztecs . This is also noticeable on the record covers and in various music videos.

The members of the band have a few smaller side projects that are dedicated to a similar topic. One example is the project by the singer Lefthander named Raxa , which deals with the Mayan ceremonies.

style

The style of the band is not easy to categorize. Mostly the style moves between Death Metal and Doom Metal with folk- like ambient elements. However, some pieces in the group also have other influences, e.g. B. the clear female voice of Johny Ratsen. Furthermore, some pieces only consist of pure ambient music. Drums and bass are programmed.
