Teqvoly is played with two teams of two players each. In the center of the hexagonal playing area is a table with an upwardly curved surface that looks like a table tennis table; the “net” consists of plexiglass . The serve is behind the baseline, both feet must touch the ground and be behind the service line.

The service must not touch the net and must touch the table on the opposing side exactly once. If there is a service error, there is a second attempt. After two valid serves, the right to serve changes. As in volleyball and beach volleyball, the players have a maximum of three touches of the ball per move, whereby they have to pass the ball at least once.

Playing the ball on the opponent's plate is only permitted if the ball is on the side of one's own team. It is possible to play the ball back from the other side. This and the last touch of the ball must be played volleyball cleanly and with the arms. In addition, the attack on a team after it has been played within must take place on the next turn from outside the field of play. If the ball is within the border before the attack and has to be brought to the opponent, this is only allowed clearly visible upwards. Touching the table is never allowed.

If a ball hits the edge of the table, the ball is repeated unless the other team has accepted it.

A sentence consists of two sections in which eight points must be achieved. To win a game, a team must win two sets. A possible third set is played up to twelve points, with a change from 7: 7 after each service.

particularities

Mixed and same sex

Children and women are allowed to jump into the field when attacking.

It is played in both same-sex and mixed two-person teams, and indeed in the same competition. The rules allow women to jump into the edge of the field, which compensates for the physical difference to men. In addition, the rules define a clearly defined service and acceptance sequence: a maximum of two services per player, one for each opponent. This prevents one person from dominating the field.

Precision and hardness

The curved table makes the ball flight curve tricky. At the same time, this peculiarity ensures the possibility of attacking very hard and thus forcing the defense far behind the table, or - facilitated by jumping for women - to play the ball precisely and gently as possible to the lower edge of the table, making it almost does not jump off.

History and international distribution

Teqvoly originated in Hungary. It is a modification of the Teqball , which is organized by the world association FITEQ. In Austria the SSVV Hart founded its own department for Teqvoly and also provided the Austrian participants for the first World Championship (see below). In Germany, the sport was presented in September 2019 at the Hungary Days in Düsseldorf . The former Hungarian national volleyball player Barbara Dégi is involved in the distribution and organized a presentation in January 2020 at a volleyball Bundesliga match at USC Münster , in which the German beach volleyball champions David and Bennet Poniewaz took part. The German men's national volleyball team used the table during training. The German national player Georg Grozer junior from Hungary supports the spread of the sport after his career has ended.

Competitions

The first Teqvoly World Championship took place in Budapest on September 7th and 8th, 2019 . The prize money was $ 25,000. 16 nations were involved in the tournament. In the final, the Poles Michał Włostowski and Jakub Choromański prevailed against the Austrian duo, consisting of Michael Bachler and Manuel Fellner from SSVV Hart. Host Hungary won the game for third place against the Czech Republic.

An international Challenger Cup was held in London in February 2020 . Further tournaments were planned in Dakar , Graz and Hungary.
