Terence Bernard McGuire

Terence Bernard McGuire (born September 19, 1881 in Moree , † July 4, 1957 in Sydney ) was an Australian Roman Catholic bishop .

Life

McGuire was born the only son of Terence McGuire, a doctor, and Mary Ann Gormley, and had a sister who joined the Order of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan . McGuire studied at St. Patrick's College in Manly (Sydney) and at the Propaganda Fide College in Rome. He was born on March 19, 1904 for the Diocese of Lismore for ordained priests . On February 12, 1930 he was appointed by Pope Pius XI. named first bishop of Townsville . On May 25, 1930 he was appointed by the Apostolic Delegate of Australia, Bartolomeo Cattaneo , with the assistance of the Bishop of Lismore ,John Joseph Carroll and ordained bishop by Toowoomba , James Byrne . On June 14, 1938 Pius XI appointed him. to the Bishop of Goulburn. Pius XII. named on February 5, 1948 the diocese of Goulburn in Canberra and Goulburn and raised it at the same time to the immediate archdiocese. On August 4, he resigned as archbishop and was appointed titular archbishop of Leontopolis in Augustamnica . He died on July 4, 1957 at the Lewisham Private Hopital in Sydney and was buried in Goulburn. 1972, his body was in the crypt Christopher's Cathedral St. in Manuka, the Canberra transferred
