The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn ( lat. : Archidioecesis Camberrensis et Gulburnensis ) is in Australia located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Canberra .

history

It was detached from the Archdiocese of Sydney on November 17, 1862 , established as the Diocese of Golbourn and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Sydney as a suffragan . As early as 1887, there were some areas for the re-establishment of the diocese Wilcannia . After the Wagga Wagga diocese had been removed from its territory in 1917 , it received the status of an immediate archdiocese on February 5, 1948 and changed its name to Canberra. The current name Canberra-Goulburn was given to the Archdiocese on June 19, 2006.
