history

The diocese Maitland-Newcastle was on June 25, 1847 by Pope Pius IX. Established from the cession of territory by the Archdiocese of Sydney as Maitland diocese and subordinated to this as a suffragan . The Diocese of Maitland was renamed the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle on June 4, 1995 .
