The Roman Catholic Diocese of Darwin (Latin Dioecesis Darvinensis , English Diocese of Darwin ) is in Australia located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Darwin .
It was founded in 1845 as the Apostolic Vicariate Essington from areas of the Archdiocese of Sydney , to which it is subject to this day as a suffragan . As early as May 27, 1847, it was named Victoria, but changed its name to Victoria-Palmerston on August 10, 1888, and to Darwin on March 29, 1938, which at the same time moved the bishopric from Victoria Darwin was connected.
