The Diocese of Rockhampton (Latin Dioecesis Rockhamptoniensis , English Diocese of Rockhampton ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Australia with its seat in Rockhampton , Queensland . It covers the central part of Queensland.

history

Pope Leo XIII. founded it on December 29, 1882 from cession of territory by the diocese of Brisbane . It was originally a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Sydney .

On May 10, 1887, it became part of the Ecclesiastical Province of Brisbane . It lost part of its territory on February 12, 1930 to the Diocese of Townsville .
