Christopher Charles Prowse (born November 14, 1953 in East Melbourne , Victoria , Australia ) is an Australian spiritual and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Canberra-Goulburn .

Life

Christopher Prowse was the third of a total of six children to Frank Prowse and his wife Marian, nee. Atkinson, born. He attended St. Francis Xavier Primary School in Box Hill and later St. Leo's College in Box Hill. He then entered the seminary Corpus Christi College and studied at the locations in Werribee (1972) and Clayton (1973-1980) Catholic theology and philosophy . He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Monash University in 1978 and a Bachelor of Theology degree from Melbourne College of Divinity in 1979 . In 1979 he received the diaconate and served as a deacon in the parish of St. John's in Mitcham operates. On August 16, 1980, the Archbishop of Melbourne , Thomas Francis Little , ordained him priestly . In 1993 he returned to Rome for another study visit and was admitted to the Pontifical Lateran University in 1995 after completing a dissertation thesis with the title Racist Attitudes Towards Aboriginal Australians in the Light of Contemporary Catholic Concepts of Social Sin and Conversion that was supervised by the Pontifical Alfonsiana Academy to the Dr. theol. PhD . Since 1996 he has been pastor of the parish of Holy Spirit in East Thornbury in addition to his teaching activities .

In 2001 Archbishop Denis Hart appointed him Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Melbourne and Curiae moderator . He also became a member of the college of consultants . On October 6, 2001, Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ).

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Bahanna and auxiliary bishop in Melbourne on April 4, 2003 . The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of Melbourne, Denis Hart, on May 19 of the same year; Co- consecrators were George Pell , Archbishop of Sydney , and Francesco Canalini , Apostolic Nuncio in Australia .

On June 18, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Sale . The solemn inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on July 15 of the same year.

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Canberra-Goulburn on September 12, 2013. The inauguration took place on November 19 of the same year. In addition, on February 27, 2014, Francis appointed him Consultor of the Pontifical Commission for Dialogue with Judaism .

During the Sedis vacancy, which lasted from September 12, 2016 to July 22, 2020, he administered the Wagga Wagga diocese as Apostolic Administrator .
