Francesco Canalini
Francesco Canalini (born May 23, 1936 in Osimo , Italy ) is a retired Vatican diplomat .
Life
Francesco Canalini was ordained a priest on March 18, 1961. In 1966 he graduated from the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy . Pope Paul VI bestowed on him on June 1, 1971 the honorary title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) and Pope John Paul II on July 6, 1983 the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness . On May 28, 1986 he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Valeria and Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Indonesia , and he was ordained bishop on July 12 of the same year. His further career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See included his appointment as Apostolic Nuncio in Ecuador on July 20, 1991, as Apostolic Nuncio in Australia on December 3, 1998 and finally as Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland and Liechtenstein on September 8, 2004.
