Terje Stigen

Terje Stigen (born June 28, 1922 in Kjelvik , Magerøya , Finnmark ; † August 14, 2010 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian writer and member of the Norwegian Academy of Language and Literature .

Life

Terje Stigen spent his childhood in Tromsø and studied philology at the University of Oslo. He made his debut in 1950 with the novel To døgn ( Two Days ) and created an extensive literary oeuvre, including 44 novels and collections of short stories. His cycle of novels Vindstille underveis ( calm on the road , 1956) is influenced by Karen Blixen ; the people are dominated by the northern nature. One of his best works is the novel Stjernøj ( Star Island ), published in 1959 , which describes the fate of numerous people.

In 1972 his novel Min Marion ( Meine Marion ) was published, which was also translated into German. His theme is the right of disabled people to love. The book was made into a film in 1975 by the Norwegian director Nils R. Müller . Müller filmed Stigen's novel Elskere ( Lovers ) with Ingerid Vardund and Wencke Myhre in 1963 .

Stigen has also written numerous radio plays, including the repeatedly broadcast piece Den røde sommerfugl ( The Red Butterfly , 1968) and the collection of texts Norwegian Rhapsody (1972). He has received several awards and was appointed to the Norwegian Academy of Language and Literature. He wrote his books in Bokmål .
