The territorial abbey Nossa Senhora do Monserrate do Rio de Janeiro ( lat. : Territorialis Abbatia Beatae Mariae Virginis de Monteserrato Fluminis Ianuarii ) was in Brazil located Roman Catholic territorial abbey based in Rio de Janeiro . It was dissolved as a jurisdiction in 2003; the Benedictine abbey itself ( Mosteiro São Bento do Rio de Janeiro ) still exists.

The monastery of Nossa Senhora do Monserrate was founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1570.

The territorial abbey Nossa Senhora do Monserrate do Rio de Janeiro was established on August 15, 1907 by the Consistorial Congregation with the decree E Brasilianae Reipublicae from cedings of territory of the diocese of Amazonas and the archbishopric of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro . She was subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro as a suffragan . On April 21, 1934, the territorial abbey Nossa Senhora do Monserrate do Rio de Janeiro was dissolved and the territory was annexed to the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro.

On May 19, 1948, the Territorial Abbey was by Pope Pius XII. re-established with the Apostolic Constitution Decessor Noster from cession of territory of the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro. The territorial abbey of Nossa Senhora do Monserrate do Rio de Janeiro was dissolved on May 6, 2003 by the Congregation for Bishops with the decree Iuxta normas and the territory was annexed to the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro.

The territorial abbey of Nossa Senhora do Monserrate do Rio de Janeiro was 1 km². In 2002 there were 87 Catholics living in the territory of the Territorial Abbey of Nossa Senhora do Monserrate do Rio de Janeiro. The territorial abbey had a parish and 24 priests .
