Tert- amyl ethyl ether is an aliphatic ether thathas acquired a certain technical importanceon the one hand asan additive in petrol and on the other hand as a solvent in organic chemistry . The ether is produced by the acid-catalyzed addition of ethanol to 2-methylbut-1-en or 2-methylbut-2-en ( isopentene ).
