The Tethys Bay is a 2 km wide and 3 km long bay on the Scott Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is located as a semi-circular bay of Gerlache Inlet in the northwest corner of Terra Nova Bay east of Mount Abbott at the foot of the Northern Foothills .
The New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after the Tethys Sea from the Mesozoic and older Cenozoic the Earth's history .
